The Desert at Galaxy's EdgeA Short Story by Emily Weber
The man was afraid of her. If he’d known she was a fifty year old woman, perhaps he wouldn’t be. She was enshrouded in her police suit; the heavy fabric, armor and helmet hid every clue that she might be a woman. She was tall and muscular from years of servitude to the Galactic Government, making the illusion complete.

I did not wish to come here...
I do not wish to stay..
I do no wish to see it...
But I must not turn away...
There has to be true witness...
someone has to know...
Someone must remember...

I will watch now and remember...

How truth itself was bended...

And only one to witness...
And that singleton is me...
But I do no wish to be here...
And I fear what I shall See...
I DREAM OF OTHER WORLDS
WHERE EVERYTHING CAN HAPPEN
IN THE SAME SPACE
BUT MOSTLY OUT OF REACH
SILVER SPARKS FLYING
AS THEY MOVE TOGETHER
ILLUMINATING BRIGHTLY
A BLACK AND PURPLE BEACH
WHERE GOLD AURORAS WEAVE
AMONGST WARM MAGENTA MOONS
AND CALM SILKEN SEAS
ARE BATHED FROM ABOVE
BLUE CARPETS OF VELVET
PATCH MOUNTAINS OF GREEN
GLITTERING GEMS FLOWER
AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE
A GENTLE WIND WHISPERS
AND FRAGILE CREATURES SIGH
DREAMS JOIN IN THE SYMPHONY
STRUMMING YOU AND I
ALL IS SAVOURED
AND YET SWALLOWED WHOLE
AS I PAINT THE STARS AND VISIONS
WHILST Y
